2007-09-23 In honor of Bruce Springsteen's birthday I finally broke wind, um - I'm sure I meant to say ground on a new project tentatively titled: You're not getting any younger, it's time to sing along with Joel! I say "project" because who knows if there will be such a thing as a CD by the time I'm done. Have eight or nine new originals and too much stuff to do, including, apparently, being a cry-baby. 2007-03-18 I kept having this dream about green beer.... Actually felt like playing out would be fun yesterday, must be the long guitar-playing-inducing evenings. If I do play out this summer it won't be much because I need to keep writing so I have something to record and need to record so there might be some more news someday. As well as playing at the Midwest Music Summit in Indianapolis next week (Monon Coffee 8pm on Friday August 11th) I'm looking forward to going back to Mother Fool's in Madison the weekend after that, Crescent Moon Coffee in Lincoln in September and Uncommon Ground in Chicago in October. Thanks to Peter Hay at Twin Vision TWIMB has been added at over 40 AAA Radio stations. Of course I'm thrilled that some unsuspecting citizens are tuning in to their radios to have their minds twisted by the likes of Bigsville, Lullaby for Becky or Family of Man - and extremely grateful for everyone who's playing TWIMB. 2006-01-18 Making some progress towards recording again. Have so far endured an unbootable disk and a sound card who's manufacturer appears to have gone out of business - but I'm pretty sure I still have those drivers somewhere. In the meantime, though, I'm visiting friends in Victoria and couldn't pass up a chance to play at the Spiral Cafe! Two sets, by golly - Saturday, February 4th at 8pm. If I'm completely out of my head I may make them endure me Monday night at Steamers for "Monday Night Stage Fright" acoustic open stage. 2005-12-04 Cafe Dodici! Saturday, December 10th, that is. Sometime after 8pm. I'll be opening up for or trading short sets with Bill Bryant again, depending on how the evening goes. Got listed on the blog at the Directory of Free Music Downloads. Have to make some time to listen to some of the other stuff there. Is this a busy time of year or what? 2005-06-15 Sefronia - "Chroniques musicales et des environs" - has posted a review by Jérôme Fiori of TWIMB. I think my favorite part (of the google translation) is: "Joel Arant, of a faded voice which can be moulted in falsetto, tells with obvious and simple words the hopes re-examined with the fall ("Bigsville"), and especially of the ruffled stories of love like papier-mâché. I think that pretty well sums it up!2005-06-04 I got to sing just like a bird last Sunday at La Boheme Bistro in Ames and I actually remembered to take a picture while I was up there. Somewhere on this page of reviews by the eclectic, internet-only music magazine - Ear Candy, there's a review of TWIMB. I'd rather look good but I've always thought that the next best thing would be to be " catchy and interesting ". And to help you score some points with the ladies. Fellas, I do what I can for you. You have to keep in mind that even though the direct translation of "geweldige" is "terrible" (as far as I can tell), that they might have really meant "horrid". Just kidding! 2005-02-27 Finished (writing) a new song, started another and who could prove it's not true? And who's not wearing any pants? I thought I noticed a draft in here! 2005-02-04 Played the Thursday night open mike (1/27) at the Casbah in Madison, Wisconsin. Debuted my duck walk with much ado and to much acclaim. Still kicking myself for not taking a picture while I was up there but I didn't want to get hit with (yet) another rotten tomato. Had a great time listening to Polkarioty at the Essen Haus the next night. Yep, they still drink beer out of big glass boots in Wisconsin. 2005-01-23 I would like to thank Robin Cracknell at americana UK for a very generous review of To Whom it May Behoove. You may have to scroll down a bit. 2005-01-16 Just got back a few days ago from hogging the mike at the OPEN STAGE VARIETY SHOW with Otto at the historic Melody Inn in Indianapolis. Thoroughly enjoyed 4 hours of drunken stupor followed by about 3 hours of sleep. I love that place! 2004-12-26 CD, baby! Ok, so it would be lame if that was all that was new. So, I just noticed today that To Whom it May Behoove was reviewed on ALTCOUNTRYNL. Of course I can't understand a word of it but they did give the CD 3 horses. I hope that's good! Also played a couple of open mikes in the Chicago area (if you can call that playing - I was sober for one and I'm not saying which - ouch!) and my good friend indulged me by letting me open up (with help from George Lales on drums) for his birthday party jam at the Duper. Anyway, I think I got my taste for (my own) blood back. 2004-10-17 Theeeey're back! 2004-10-31 "Snafu" with CDs. Had to send them back to have tray card reinserted. In effort to round them up one got dropped off at the Goodwill store with a box of post garage sale stuff. It usually takes at least a couple of weeks before they end up there! 2004-10-21 CDs arrived today. What was I thinking? Need to empty out a closet. 2004-10-17 This friggin' website is the news, pal, not to mention the CD. It's really just going to get older from here on out - unless I play out somewhere or something.
